Teacher-Led Academic Projects

The Harrison Hills City School District Board of Education is excited to announce the successful implementation of 14 teacher-led academic projects, made possible by a recent lease agreement with Ascent Resources.
The district received $57,872.85 in bonus funding through a new gas and oil lease, which the Board of Education designated specifically for educational initiatives. The Board and administration invited teachers and faculty to submit project ideas that would enhance the academic environment.
“Anytime you receive money outside of the anticipated budget, there is reason to be excited. We are grateful to be in a position where this money could be allocated to the direct benefit of students,” said D.J. Watson, School Board President.
The funded projects included: Industrial art supplies, a bibliotherapy library to support students’ emotional well-being, a book hub to create a welcoming space for students needing additional reading support, a 3D printer and supplies, ceramic art supplies, funding for the Ohio Appalachian Tick Project to engage students in environmental science and research, funding for students to attend the Close Up program to experience civic engagement and leadership in Washington, D.C., preschool playground updates, small-group flexible seating, gardening tools and seating for the new outdoor classroom, a sensory light table for kindergartners, and STEM classroom materials to support hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering, and math.
“It speaks to the core values of our Board members,” said Duran Morgan, Superintendent of Harrison Hills City School District. “At the heart of their work is always a focus on how to enhance the educational experience for our students. I’m not surprised at all this is how they chose to spend these ‘bonus’ dollars. We are fortunate to have Board members who continually uplift and support our teachers and staff in providing the best possible opportunities and experiences for our students.”
The Harrison Hills City School District is proud to celebrate the dedication and hard work of its school board during School Board Appreciation Month. Their unwavering commitment to educational excellence and support for our educators and students is essential to the success of our community.
