For the past 10 years, Harrison Hills City School District has proudly hosted the Harrison County Food Bank, providing support to families in need. District students take an active role in organizing and distributing food each month, learning the value of community service and leadership firsthand.
Each year, HHCSD students step up to sort, package, and distribute food, ensuring that families in the community have access to essential resources. This hands-on experience not only benefits those in need but also fosters a sense of responsibility, teamwork, and compassion among students.
“The students who volunteer for this program are some of our very best,” said Jenny Gibson, program coordinator. “It’s not easy work, but they take it on with enthusiasm and make it fun. Their dedication and energy are truly inspiring.”
The Harrison County Food Bank operates on the fourth Wednesday of each month, registration begins at 8:30 a.m and distribution begins around 11:30 a.m. Anyone in need of food assistance is welcome to join the distribution line. Thanks to a longstanding partnership with the Mid-Ohio Food Bank in Columbus, this program comes at zero cost to the school district while ensuring that families receive fresh and nutritious food.
