Free Breakfast and Lunch for All Students in 2025–2026
The Harrison Hills City School District is proud to announce that all students will receive free breakfast and lunch every school day for the 2025–2026 academic year, regardless of household income.
This decision was unanimously supported by the Board of Education during its June 30 meeting reflects a continued investment in removing barriers to student success. While the Board already invests heavily in the district’s food service program, this additional commitment—covering the 2025–2026 school year—further supports student well-being and access to nutritious meals.
While nearly 64% of Harrison Hills students qualify for free or reduced lunch, the Board of Education has agreed to sponsor the additional $34,000 in costs compared to the prior year, allowing all students to receive free breakfast and lunch.
“Providing nourishment for our students is one of the most meaningful ways we can support our kids and families,” said Superintendent Duran Morgan. “Studies consistently show that well-nourished students have better attendance, improved concentration, and stronger academic performance. Students who participate in school meal programs eat more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and are more likely to maintain a healthy lifestyle.”
This initiative is made possible through the USDA's Community Eligibility Provision program, which allows schools with higher percentages of low-income students to offer free meals to all. The district’s food service is managed by The Nutrition Group, and local Director of Food and Nutrition Kelly Howes was praised for her leadership and positive rapport with students across all school buildings.
“Every student knows and values Kelly,” said Mike Saffell, Director of Operations at Harrison Central. “Her kindness and charisma echo throughout the cafés in each school. We are fortunate to have her directing our food service program.”
“We’re thrilled to provide every student with a free, well-balanced breakfast and lunch each day," said Kelly Howes, Director of Food and Nutrition. "For those who want to add a little extra to their meal, we’ll still have a great selection of à la carte options available for purchase."
To receive free lunch, all families—regardless of income—must complete and return the Ohio Household Income Form that will be sent home at the start of the school year.
