Take a Look Inside Our Classrooms!

Ever wonder how we know where each student is in their learning journey—and how we help them keep growing? Our teachers use assessment tools and follow data trends to guide how they support each student.

Over the last few years, we’ve integrated the MAP Reading Fluency tool with Coach into our literacy curriculum. This tool gives teachers real-time insight into each child’s strengths and needs. Because MAP adapts to every learner, students receive questions at their own level—helping them build reading skills over time.

Our reading teachers especially love the digital Coach, which uses AI to adapt in real time—making questions more challenging when students answer correctly, or allowing more practice on skills they’re still developing.

Bus Safety Drills

Last week, Harrison Hills students participated in school bus evacuation and safety drills. These exercises are an important part of preparing students to respond quickly and calmly in the event of an emergency. Drivers reviewed safety procedures with students, demonstrated proper exits, and guided them through practice evacuations.

We appreciate the cooperation of our students and staff in making these drills a success. Their commitment ensures that everyone is better prepared to stay safe while traveling to and from school.

Meet the 2025–2026 Preschool Class

Our preschoolers are off to a wonderful start this school year! The class has been busy learning the morning routine and doing a great job mastering it together. This week, students were introduced to the Question of the Week: “Do you like to paint?” and enjoyed sharing their answers.

We also added new centers to our daily rotation and worked in small groups on tracing lines—starting at the smiley face and stopping at the dot. Students practiced tracing both downward and upward lines and followed directions beautifully.
We are excited for all the learning and growing to come for the preschool class of 2025–2026!

Guest Speaker Chase Watts Speaks On Mental Health

A big thank you to WVU Medicine and Southeast Healthcare for helping us bring speaker Chase Watts to Harrison Central Jr./Sr. High School. His powerful message encouraged our students to practice self-care, recognize that emotions are normal, and understand that asking for help is a sign of strength.

Close Up Washington, D.C. Program

Four Harrison Central seniors have been selected to participate in the Close Up program in Washington, D.C., March 15–20, 2026. Close Up’s nonpartisan, issue-focused curriculum gives students a deeper understanding of history, government institutions, current issues, and the role of citizens. The program is designed to help young people find their voice and build critical skills for addressing the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.
This year’s participants are Kayne Dunkle, Chaz Culbertson, Jaiden Pelegreen, and Nicolette Peeler.
We are grateful to Clark-Kirkland-Barr Funeral Home, Milestone Company, and the Huskies Sports Foundation for their generous support of this year’s trip. Additional donations are welcome and may be made payable to Harrison Central High School, c/o Samantha McIntosh.

Food Bank Volunteers

Thank you to WVU Harrison Community Hospital for volunteering at the Harrison County Food Bank. Our students lead this project each month, taking responsibility for sorting and distributing food during the drive-through distribution on the fourth Wednesday.

Through our partnership with the Mid-Ohio Food Bank in Columbus, we are able to provide fresh, nutritious food—donated by Walmart, Sam's Club, Kroger, Meijer, Ohio farmers, and more—at no cost to the district.

We are grateful for our students’ hard work and dedication, and for the community partners who make this program possible. If your organization is interested in volunteering, please email us to get involved!
