Board of Education Sets Course to Pay Off New School Bond Early
The Harrison Hills City School District Board of Education has approved a bold financial strategy to pay off the district’s building bond in full by 2027, 28 years ahead of schedule. The plan includes a payment of $18.5 million this Fiscal Year, followed by a planned payment of the remaining $7.4 million next Fiscal Year. Read the press release at go.hhcsd.org/bondpayoff
Veterans Day Breakfast – November 11
Harrison Hills City School District invites all Harrison County veterans to join us for a morning of honor and appreciation on Tuesday, November 11, from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. at Harrison Central. Guests will enjoy a complimentary breakfast, a band performance, and a special program presented by Harrison Central students in recognition of our local heroes.
This year’s keynote speaker is Kristen Willis, Harrison Hills Board Member and United States Air Force Veteran (2003–2011).
This week, our elementary students learned important lessons about fire safety thanks to a visit from the Cadiz Volunteer Fire Department. Students explored ways to stay safe, practiced “Stop, Drop, and Roll,” and even got a closer look at firefighting gear to learn why it’s nothing to be afraid of.

Bus Safety Week
Last week, HCES celebrated School Bus Safety Week! School Resource Officers Sergeant Brooks and Sergeant Valesko—along with their mascot pals—visited elementary classrooms to review important bus safety reminders, rules, and procedures. Their visits helped students stay alert, confident, and prepared for their daily rides to and from school.
Sixth Grade Explores Scientific Models
Sixth-grade students were busy this week creating scientific models as part of their unit on Scientific Investigation. Through hands-on learning, they explored the different types of models and discovered how scientists use them to better understand things that are too large, too small, too complex, or too dangerous to study directly.
Creative Hands at Work!
Students had a blast this week painting large sheets of paper to create colorful dinosaurs for display in the breezeway. Using handprints to form the dinosaurs’ textured skin, students loved getting hands-on—literally—as they explored color, creativity, and teamwork through this fun art activity.

Known for his attention to detail and creative approach, Kayne Dunkle is the talent behind many of the community projects coming out of Mr. Noble’s Industrial Arts program. His latest work will be donated to all local VFWs during next week’s VALES Football Luncheon.
Thespian Troupe Paints the Plow
Harrison Central’s Thespian Troupe #1690 put their creativity to work through ODOT’s annual Paint the Plow project. The students designed and painted a snowplow blade that will soon hit the roads!
Performers Shine at Algonquin Mill Festival
The Harrison Central Band, Select Choir, and Color Guard took the stage at last year’s Algonquin Mill Festival, sharing their music and talent with the community. Their performance showcased the hard work and dedication of our student musicians and performers—bringing Huskies pride to this beloved local event.

Upcoming Senior Service Learning Project Initiative
Required for graduation: seniors complete service learning projects that build skills and serve the community!
The Huskies edged out Bellaire, 29–26, in a thrilling comeback victory.
Junior Varsity Football Triumphs Over Indian Creek.
The junior varsity football team traveled to Indian Creek on Saturday, October 4. The Huskies were victorious with a final score of 29-28.
Cross Country Competes at OVAC
On Monday, October 4, the Harrison Central Cross Country Team participated in the OVAC meet. Boys’ Varsity runner Michael Abel finished 117th out of 209 runners with a time of (20:29.53). Girls’ Varsity runner Aubrie Moss finished with a place of 141 out of 183 with a time of (27:40.20). Kodence Ortiz, Boys’ Junior High runner, finished 94th out of 175 with a time of (15:03.99).
Girls’ Soccer Wins on Senior Night
On Monday, October 6, the girls’ soccer team hosted the Edison Wildcats for their senior night. The final score was 1-0. Senior Emma Patterson scored the game-winning goal.
7th Grade Volleyball Beats Indian Creek
On Monday, October 6, the 7th grade volleyball team went against Indian Creek. It was their first Buckeye 8 Tournament game and they came out with a victory! They won in 3 sets, with scores of 25-19, 23-25, and 25-23.
